On Sunday July 31st at 11:30PM, the Tompkins County 911 center toned out the Trumansburg Fire Department for a report of a structure fire on Little Point Rd in the town of Covert. Per automatic mutual aide that has been established, Interlaken, Ovid, and Lodi fire departments were also dispatched simultaneously but the Seneca County 911 center. 1861 was on scene moments after dispatch and reported to all incoming units of a fully involved garage fire attached to the house. 1804 with a full crew arrived shortly after and began to set up for the attack while Interlaken 503 set up as the supply engine and began to draft out of the lake. 1804 raised the deck gun for the initial hit and knocked the flames back while crews advanced hand lines to the two story house with an in ground garage. While members were attacking the flames other crews were sent into the house to begin a search for victims and any possible extension. At first there was found to be minimal extension into the house and those flames were knocked down. With additional resources arriving a rehab station was set up by on scene EMS personnel and other crews began to rotate in the structure. When overhaul began, command was informed that the fire had spread into the walls, the basement ceiling, and up into the attic of the house. Additional alarms then went out to other departments for more manpower to spell the already exhausted crews that had been fighting the blaze. Command then had crews enter the house and start to remove as many belongings for the homeowners as they could. Ovid’s ladder truck was called to the scene to gain access to the roof where there were a number of hot spots were found. Crews would remain on scene into the 5:00 hour attacking hot spots and picking up. In total, there were eight departments from three different counties. TFD would like to thank Interlaken, Ovid, Lodi, Mecklenburg, Enfield, Fayette, Varick, and Waterloo fire departments for all of their assistance on the long humid night. No injuries were reported and the cause for the blaze had yet to be determined.
