On Monday at about 3:00PM Trumansburg firefighters were dispatched to a house fire in the 6000 block of Lyke Road. Enfield Fire and Rescue was automatically dispatched as well. First arriving officers from the two departments found flame and smoke showing from the area of the chimney in the family room wing of the wood frame home. Firefighters from TFD and Enfield were joined on the scene by members of the Mecklenburg Volunteer Fire Company and two units from Ithaca Fire and Rescue. The home was unoccupied except for family pets. First in teams got the animals out and they were tended to by staff on scene. The fire was quickly knocked down but required extensive overhaul due to the construction of the house. Odessa, Newfield and Interlaken fire departments were on standby to cover stations.
