After a quiet fall morning on Wednesday 11/11/09, the pace picked up during the afternoon hours, for TFD. At shortly before 12:30PM, Tompkins County ERC dispatched EMS and Fire/Rescue for an ATV accident on Seneca County Road 142 in the town of Covert. A teenage male had rolled his three wheeler and was suffering with facial and back injuries. Chief Fulton had a helicopter placed on standby due to the nature of the call. First arriving staff reported the victim to be semi-conscious so the order was given to have the helicopter fly. Day staff EMS and volunteers cared for the patient and had him packaged and moved to a nearby field where the LZ was set up. Mercy Flight arrived on scene and transported our patient to Upstate Medical in Syracuse.
Later in the afternoon, at about 5:05PM, TFD was toned out for a pickup truck fire on Searsburg Road near the Burr Road intersection. Several TFD members who live in the area were on scene immediately and reported a fully involved vehicle fire and no immediate exposures. The fire was quickly knocked down with the use of 1 handline off of 1804. The fire was determined to be accidental in nature and all units were cleared in about a half an hour.
The days activities were brought to a conclusion with our normal Wednesday night training session that was well attended by the volunteers of TFD.
